Sweet Dreams Shake

March 28, 2020 by Meera Leave a Comment

If whats happening in the world is getting you anxious, restless, and giving you sleepless nights, you’re not alone. There are a few things I have been doing to relief my stress. With my gym and yoga studio closed I have been practicing my workouts regularly in my living room. My breathing excercise also helps me with focus, calming my body and finding stillness of mind. I have also included an Ayurvedic inspired night time milk. This milk is a bit different from the classic turmeric milk. There is no turmeric in this drink and this drink is to be consumed at room temperature. I would prefer a warm before bed but the banana and oats will thicken the shake too much. If you prefer a warm milk, omit the banana and oats. Blend and heat the milk to a gentle simmer before drinking.

The almond milk, dates, pistachios, and banana are rich in tryptophan, a natural chemical found in foods that helps the brain produce melatonin. Specifically pistachios which has one of the best sources to produce melatonin. Simply eating 5-8 shelled pistachios can help induce a restful nights sleep if you suffer from restless sleep or jetlag. All these foods are also rich in magnesium, a deficiency in magnesium can lead to poor and restless sleep. So go ahead and try this shake and sleep well!

Sweet Dream Shake, Serves 2
INGREDIENTS
  • 2 cups almond milk
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup banana mashed
  • 2 tablespoons oats soaked in warm water for 5 minutes
  • 2 tablespoons shelled pistachios
  • 1-2 dates, pitted
  • ¼ – ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ – ½ teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Directions
  1. Combine the almond milk, water, pistachios, dates, mashed banana, oats and spices in a high-speed blender. Blend until smooth and creamy. Enjoy right away.
