Fajita Spice Mix

Fajita seasoning is a beautiful spice mix to add some delicious Mexican flavor to any simple meal. The classic Latin flavors such paprika, chili powder, cumin, garlic, Mexican oregano are staples in most kitchens is all that you need to make this seasoning. What I love is its so easy to put together without added sugars, starches, colors, fillers, additives thats found frequently in store-bought seasoning packets. You can make this mix in small batches just enough for a meal or multiply to make for a few times.

Making your own fajita seasoning is way easier than you think, chances are you already have all the ingredients in your pantry. Simply measure the spices, mix it all together, and use it right away or store for later. It’s faster than remembering to buy, opening those little packets, reading the instructions and putting the recipe together.

INGREDIENTS FOR FAJITA SEASONING

Fajita seasoning is a blend of common pantry spices found in Mexican cuisine which includes:

  • Chili Powder
  • Oregano, Mexican preferably
  • Ground Cumin
  • Garlic Powder
  • Sweet Paprika
  • Kosher Salt
  • Fresh cracked black pepper

FAJITA VS TACO SEASONING

Honesty, the two seasonings are quite interchangeable. It’s simply personal preference based on your flavor palate. There’s slight difference in the intensity and way they’re used.

Taco and fajita seasonings have common ingredients, they differ in terms ratio and intensity. Store bought fajita seasonings have citric acid for acidity, which a squeeze of lime juice will replace. For fajita, meat and fresh vegetables are seasoned and quickly seared or stir fried. That means the seasoning needs to be intense without too much spicy heat and finished with lime juice for bright fresh and tangy flavors.

Tacos are normally made with slow-cooked meat, and acid is not added. Typically spices are intense and a little extra spices are used.

HOW TO USE FAJITA SEASONING

We love to use fajita seasoning the classic way to marinate and grill chicken, shrimp, tofu, fish or even meats. This seasoning is excellent over bell peppers, cauliflower, portobello mushrooms, zucchini, sweet potatoes or any other veggie you like.
