Sunshine Antioxidant Boosting Smoothie

January 23, 2020 by Meera Leave a Comment

The one thing I find that helps me every morning to awaken my senses and bring a bit of sunshine into my life is this zesty, immune boosting orange smoothie. Specially the cold dark winter mornings when I crave for some bright and zingy. Its packed with ginger, turmeric, a whole lemon, oranges, some frozen pineapple, oat milk and E.v olive oil. I add hemp seeds to provide protein, fiber and make the smoothie very filling.

The combination is a bit odd but it works so well, specially during the cold and flu season when we need the extra flu fighting antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and fiber. It tastes super delicious and can be customized to your strength. Use as little or as much of ginger and turmeric to your tolerance and increase as you get used to its taste. You’ll love the citrus, lightly sweet, energizing ginger creamy smoothie.

This recipe makes 2 serving and best consumed right away or keep refrigerated upto 24 hrs. This smoothie turns bitter from the ginger if left to sit for long. Enjoy fresh preferably!

Sunshine Immunity Boosting Smoothie

INGREDIENTS

SERVES 2-3 GLASSES

  • 1 teaspoon extra virgin olive oil, ( trust me you won’t taste it and the fat helps with turmeric absorption)
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 3-4 oranges, peeled whole, I used 4 mandarin satsumas
  • ½-1 Meyer lemon, peeled and seeds removed, Use 1 for strong citrus taste
  • ½ cup Frozen Pineapple
  • 1-2 inch piece Fresh Ginger, peeled or scrubbed, use less for milder taste
  • 1 inch piece Fresh Turmeric, peeled or ½-1 teaspoon Ground, use ½ for milder taste
  • ½ teaspoon Vanilla Extract (optional)
  • 1 cup Almond or Oat Milk
  • 1 tablespoon hemp seeds for extra protein for topping
  1. Place all ingredients in a high speed blender and blend until smooth. Add more milk to get a thinner consistency.
  2. SPRINKLE HEMP SEEDS BEFORE SERVING.
